Should i cut back poppies?

or leave them, they look a bit messy. Also should azalea be pruned?

Should i cut back poppies?
Yes sure why not and they are annuals but will reseed each year, and yes your azalea should be pruned, Good Luck with your gardening.
Reply:The poppy will return in the spring so go ahead %26amp; cut it back. I would wait on the azalea if you want the nicest blooms though. Not exactly sure when the latest time would be safe to prune without cutting off the buds, but I do see a lot of azalea trimed into shapes %26amp; they still bloom.
Reply:poppies can be cut to the ground

azalea just trim if you must but you may loose flower buds for next season.
Reply:sure yo can cut them back. but only the flower stems. leave the leaves

However if you wait until the dseed heads have ripened you cna scatter them around and get more plants that way. Just don%26#039;t forget where you scatter them as you might think they are weeds!!
Reply:Poppies will form seed heads with masses of seeds so scattrer them in spring

If your azalea has any dread wood cut it out otherwise leave it alone
Reply:There are two types of poppy that are commonly grown. Annuals that will seed themselves all over and perennials which are deep rooted and will form clumps in the border. Both need to be cut back after flowering, if you cut back the perennial quickly enough you will sometimes get a second flush of flowers.

Azealeas are best left alone, only prune to shape it or to removed dead, diseased or damaged wood.
Reply:You can cut the poppies back to the ground. They will come back. I have never heard of anyone pruning azaleas, and I think the blossoms appear on old growth, so if you chop them back they won%26#039;t bloom next year.
Reply:Oriental poppies are perennial. Cut them back in the spring. Prune the azaleas only if they are larger than you want. Treat them like any shrub, I prune them after they finish blooming.
Reply:By all means cut back your porppies. I prefer to leave about on inch of a plant, just so I can remember where they are planted come spring before they green up.

If you do prune azalea make certain you do it when the plant is dormant if not frozen, and only do so to shape them. You will loose flowers next year and they may grow out funny so be careful.
